I've told you before. We're only used to each other and relying on each other. Ordis more so than me because he was bound to a ship. My ship. So he's trying much better than I Would've thought he would.
[He locks his jaw at the last bit. It takes some effort to not outright glare at her.]
I am aware of your former circumstances. They explain why things are the way they are currently. I'm telling you that it is unwise, unfair to him, you, and this crew--and borderline cruel to continue in that fashion now that your circumstances have changed.
An enemy of mine and Ordis as well contacted the ship directly. Said enemy broke into a ship controlled by Ordis and manipulated him before trying to kill me and force him to watch. So yes I do know.
No, I am not. That is why I am making you aware of this problem now. [Because if you know something is a problem and don't try to fix it, then it becomes your fault.]
Your enemy drove Ordis into such hysterics that I was concerned he might injure himself. He was completely unable to function. While I understand this is an incident of ptsd--and understandably so--his complete fixation on you is a matter for concern.
[Very, very calmly:] Because some day you may not be here. You may be injured, or gone, or working on a task that can't be halted, or dead. We all know this is not necessarily a permanent billet. You might be sent back to your home world and he could get left behind.
He needs to be able to function and survive without you. You need to be able to function and survive without him, because it goes both ways.
So what you're telling me is that I shouldn't be there for him. So that way he could get used to being apart. As if I haven't gone off world or more without him prior to this and him having a way to contact me.
[His voice remains even and unnaturally calm. Very much forced.]
As though the last time we were separated, Grineer didn't shred him apart piece by piece and he could do nothing about it. I have abandoned him before. I'm not doing it again. I am duty bound as much as he is to me because he is all I have left since I woke up and same to him.
I am not in any way proposing abandonment. There are ways to be there for someone, to be partners, to be with them, to whatever the hell you want that don't leave them completely unable to function in your absence. Your guilt over what has happened to Ordis in the past is understandable, and your commitment to your partner is laudable until it fosters dependence rather than independence and equality.
[She's not going to argue with the rest of it. Tenno's going to feel how he's going to feel about the rest of the crew, and she has absolutely no control over it.]
And if you blow off what I'm saying to you because of that guilt, that's when it will become your fault.
[He may as well be talking to a corrupted. It's as useless as trying to prove a point to a wall and believe it to be listening.]
He's programmed to be that so called "dependent" but time and quirks have made it much worse. The Orokin constructed him to protect as much as help me and I in turn swore to do the same for him. I didn't have to. He's merely a cephalon and one worn by time and loneliness.
You know, after I retrieved all of the parts the Grineer tore from him, he told me it was ok to destroy him. To get a new partner. I told him no.
So yes I know that it's not favorable to you or the crew. But that's how it's been for centuries. There is no simple fix. ...we are trying for this ship.
[He looks away.] So until he wishes for me to not to or Lotus somehow tells me not, I will come whenever he calls.
[Well, she didn't really expect him to understand her point. She'll need to consider a new angle of attack. Probably talk to the captain first, though, since he will no doubt have computer person insights.]
You missed my main point, Tenno. The effect this has on the ship and crew is secondary. I am concerned because this is unfair to Ordis. Ordis is part of this crew now, just as much as you are, and you will need to get used to the fact that his mental health and ability to function is no longer solely your concern. It is my job to see to his wellbeing.
[And to Wrath, the job is sacred.]
Your history is important context. But your circumstances have changed completely, as have his. I understand very well that these things have no simple fix, and I am prepared to discuss the matter in detail to search for a new angle of address. [She tilts her head slightly.] But as of right now, you seem uninterested in even acknowledging that there is a problem.
[Pushing himself to his feet, he strides over to her. He looks down at her with narrowed eyes.]
Do not tell me that I am so blind as to not see a problem with my partner. He is damaged and I know that. I'm appreciative of your help as much as the rest. The situation has changed. I get that.
But do not talk to me as if I'm stupid enough to ignore said facts. And I will gladly repeat myself. Ordis has the last say so now that we cannot contact Lotus and you will not be the one to stop me from my duty. He will.
[Now she just looks unimpressed. Really, Tenno, trying the height thing? Really? She's kicked scarier, taller, grumpier things out of bed in the morning and told them to go to work.]
You need to clean out your fucking ears if you think anything I've said conflicts with your duty. [Eyebrow raise.] Unless your duty actually is to keep Ordis completely dependent upon your approval in order to function?
[He's fought things bigger than this ship before so in all honesty there is no fear when standing up to Wrath and he has no desire to fight her. There is respect for her but right now he was sincerely not liking her.]
We're done here.
[Turning away from her, he returns back to his previous work.]
[The temptation to make this into a pissing contest is pretty fierce, but also useless. She knows her back is a mess and she can't really back it up, which is frustrating.
But hell, what is there to respect about her. She's hollow. But she sets that aside, refocuses on the point of this conversation, reassess. Which is basically, Tenno is going to be an active detriment to Ordis at this rate, and she's just going to have to find a way of dealing with it. This is going to be a long-term thing anyway.]

[She tilts her head slightly.] And maybe it goes both ways.

I'm going to do my job.
[She heads out of the armory.]
